
The Stairwell is a short film that was written, directed and scored by Dr. Malcolm W. Rector and produced by Dr. Rector’s production company M. J. Solomon Productions in association with Hawk in Flyte Productions. A surreal drama in which a man must face the darkness that has guided him throughout his life, The Stairwell was chosen for one of sixteen coveted slots to be shown at the

deemed one of the top ten film festivals in the world by E!. There it won the Final Draft award for best short script. Dr. Rector’s short film The Contest was also chosen.

Young Nicholas, played by Ben Pronsky, is threatened by Thief, played by Jason Konopisos.
Old, alone and bitterly disappointed by the direction his life has taken, Nicholas sits in a small, cheap motel room and reflects upon the decisions that have led him there. His thoughts carry him up a symbolic stairwell of life, flooding him with grief, horror and desolation and reminding him that there is blood on his hands that will never wash off. Through it all a dark entity guides him . . . has always guided him . . . but to what purpose? Does the darkness even exist? Where will it take him?
Nicholas endeavors to find out as he takes the final steps.

The Stairwell boasts a compact, very talented cast. Shot entirely in Houston on DV, it has been described as having a David Lynch-like quality and has left more than one audience speechless.
